Weight Loss Journey: Week Five

From Dr. Schmerge: Hillary has offered to share her story as she works with me on losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Weight loss, nutrition and physical activity look different for everyone. Please do not start a new regimen without consulting a medical professional first. Equity Health is here for YOU and your journey.

Recap

  • I crossed the 160-pound line on the scale. I knew it was time for a change.

  • I got under 160 pounds on my own!  I did it! I got to 155 pounds. But then the scale didn't move. At all. And I was feeling really frustrated.

  • First visit/shot: 155 lbs

  • Second visit/shot: 153 lbs

  • Third visit/shot: 152 lbs

  • Fourth visit/shot: 151 lbs

  • Fifth visit/shot: 150 lbs

  • Sixth visit/shot: 148 lbs

Week five - six

I'm feeling really good! The B12 shots and smaller protein-focused meals throughout the day have significantly increased my energy level.

I'm still getting used to not have those snacky feelings all day. You'll remember that I work from home and was known to snack mindlessly when taking a break from the computer. I'm more purposeful with my time and still get a snack, but also make time to pull some weeds in the garden or read for a few minutes. I'm not preoccupied by feeling (or thinking I feel) hungry.

I returned from a long weekend away, and something new happened: I didn't realize how much my new, smaller appetite would affect me! I didn't worry about the long plane ride and needing to eat before departing (or bringing extra snacks). I ate smaller portions when we went out. It was amazing to not worry about eating.

It may sound silly, but it made the trip much more enjoyable.

Exercise

I'm still walking almost daily. I've made it to the Y a few times now. I work for myself - and I'm thrilled that my business is keeping me very busy! - but I also need to remember to take time for myself. Every day.

Finding me-time 30 minutes to an hour every day is work in itself. But I'm doing my best to make it happen. It can be hard to get yourself going, but you never regret it when it's done.

Moving forward

Everything is great! I have a busy week, between work and self care, and I'm very much enjoying my journey.

I'm back for the seventh shot early next week. Seeing those scale numbers go down each visit is a pretty cool feeling!
